Art has always been in a never-ending evolution, from static pieces to moving pictures. The practice of visual arts gave everyone a limitless creative vision. In this work, I wanted to share how animation and manga played a huge role in my artistic journey. Four Stages Of_ is a set of new works that I want to present as a tribute to the animators, animation historians, and the development of the technology that highly influenced my practice.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always dreamt of creating my own animation. Moving pictures always fascinated me. I recently got books about animation, women in the animation industry, and animation history. I was so captivated by how the process works and how each single painted piece can create stories that will be of great impact on many young artists like me.
In my exploration of manga, I encountered Tomoko Hayakawa, whose works breathe characters full of expressions through wordless panels that are very engaging and enlightening. Her gift for dry comedy and heartfelt imagery balances everything up. Her humor and storytelling are such huge inspirations to me. Tomoko Hayakawa's works feel like a laugh with a friend and thus this work is also a tribute to her.
I see this concept as a step towards what I want to really pursue in the future. I want to incorporate animation and manga with paintings and then fill up the venue with different media of art. I can definitely see myself continuing in creating stories about the mundane and little things we experience. We overlook moments that have the potential to be something.
The Game.
As an artist, I understand that perceptions and stories are not the same for everyone. I have the ability to produce the pieces, but it will always be dependent on how viewers perceive, receive, and consume the message behind the work. For this project in MAPS, I want to create this dialogue among the audience and experiment on what kind of perception and interpretation they would like to contribute upon looking at this 4-piece short narrative.
Let us play, let our minds dance together. Tell me, What do you think is happening here?
